NZV8 Utes - New Venue for Final Round

MEDIA RELEASE

2008/2009 ENZED V8 UTE SERIES

Date: 10 MARCH 2009
Embargo: none

NEW VENUE FOR V8 UTE FINAL

Teretonga Park in Invercargill will be the new venue for the final round of the 2008/2009 ENZED V8 Utes Series. The finale to this hard fought series will now take place at the country's southernmost circuit on Sunday 22 March.

The final was originally scheduled for the first weekend in May at the new state-of-the-art facility being constructed at Hampton Downs, south of Auckland. However the change has been necessary due to the fact that the new circuit will not be ready in time. Ironically the change sees the series move from what would have been the country's newest motor racing circuit to the oldest, as Teretonga Park celebrated it's 50th anniversary in November 2007.

While the opportunity to run at an exciting new venue will now have to wait until next season there are many benefits to come from the change. The series is currently balanced on a knife edge with four different winners from the first four rounds of the series. Following the cancellation of the Hampton Downs round there are now only two rounds left - at Timaru International Motor Raceway this weekend and the Teretonga final the following weekend. That adds up to an exciting climax to the series as the four top championship contenders - Matthew Lockwood, Caine Lobb, Mack Peach and Simon Beirne - now have just two more rounds left to grab championship glory. Each has won a round of the series to date - Lockwood at Manfeild, Peach at Pukekohe, Beirne at Taupo and Lobb at the latest outing in Christchurch. Everyone of the quartet are all still very much in contention for the title and now it will be decided over eight races in the South Island over the next two weekends. There is no obvious favourite as each driver has enjoyed periods of domination. We are in for one very exciting final!

Teretonga Park in Invercargill also appeals as an exciting venue for what will be a no-holds-barred showdown. Invercargill might not be the largest population base in the country but Southlanders love their motorsport, particularly Ford versus Holden V8 battles. Teretonga has attracted some of the biggest crowds in the country for the annual summer series meeting each year in recent times and a four-way battle for a major championship will be a drawcard. The circuit is also a favourite with many drivers due to it's fast, flowing nature.

The next two weekends now promise some of the most exciting action seen in the short history of the ENZED V8 Utes Series. Introduced just last year the inaugural series was only decided in the last race of the season when Matthew Lockwood prevailed as Beirne suffered engine damage. With four well matched drivers - three in Holdens and one in a Ford - an epic battle is in store over the next two weekend's.

ENZED V8 Utes are powered by The Rock and fuelled by Demon Energy.

The series commercial partners include ENZED, The ROCK FM, Yokohama - the official tyre supplier, Penrite Lubricants - the series official oil and Demon Energy.
